In the beginning was the wave. Its breath, its crash, its vibration which are transmitted via the sand to the mattress of the hotel room. Then comes the meeting with the inhabitants of this beach of Grand-Bassam, in Ivory Coast.
Located at 30 km from Abidjan, the beach attracts the popular crowds on weekends and makes the happiness of small retailers: glasses, hats, clothes, crafts, jewelry, … . During the week, the few tourists are very much in demand, in a good mood: links are eventually forged, especially with the old craftsmen, concerned not to see young people taking over the trade.
The abyssa party
The Abyssa festival, a great festive and social moment that attracts many Ivorians. This great ritual festival lasts fifteen days and takes place once a year, at the beginning of November, in the heart of the France district, 30 km from Abidjan. The king comes out on his palanquin, men disguised as women, songwriters who denounce the bad deeds of the past year … to the rhythm of the drums. Everyone participates, dances, sings: the party, intergenerational, is total.
